A refurbished Dyson is usually worth it, as long as it comes with a warranty and a healthy battery. Today a refurbished Dyson V11 starts at £229, and a Supersonic hair dryer at £109.
We check refurbished Dyson prices from UK sellers every morning: specialist refurbishers on eBay, including Dyson’s own outlet store, plus Back Market and Loop Mobile. This guide covers the questions people ask most before buying one, using the prices we see each day.

Is a refurbished Dyson worth it?
For most people, yes. A refurbished Dyson has been tested and repaired, and it often costs far less than new. The motor in a Dyson is built to last. On cordless models, the battery is the part that wears out.
So the question isn’t really refurbished or new. It’s whether the battery and warranty are good. Several refurbishers we track now fit a new battery and say so in the listing. That’s worth paying a few pounds more for.
V8, V10, V11, V15 or Gen5: what’s the difference?
Dyson’s cordless numbers go up with each generation. Higher numbers bring longer run times and more suction, but the jump isn’t equal at every step.
| Model | Released | Run time (up to) | Refurbished from |
|---|---|---|---|
| V8 | 2016 | 40 minutes | £167 |
| V10 | 2018 | 60 minutes | £194 |
| V11 | 2019 | 60 minutes, with a screen showing time left | £229 |
| V12 Detect Slim | 2022 | 60 minutes, lighter, with a dust-revealing laser | £358 |
| V15 Detect | 2021 | 60 minutes, laser and a particle counter | £279 |
| Gen5detect | 2023 | 70 minutes, HEPA filtration | £390 |
Run times are Dyson’s figures on the lowest power setting, with a non-motorised tool. On boost you get far less, usually under 10 minutes on any model.
Our view
- V8: fine for a small home or as a second vacuum. The 40-minute run time is the weak point on an older battery.
- V10: the first model with a 60-minute run time. A sensible budget choice.
- V11: the sweet spot. It adds a screen that shows the time left and adjusts power on carpets. Refurbished prices are often not much higher than the V10.
- V15 Detect: worth it if you have pets or lots of hard floors. The laser shows dust you would otherwise miss.
- Gen5detect: the newest and most powerful. Refurbished savings are smaller, so compare it with a V15.
What do Absolute, Animal and Motorhead mean?
They’re the same machine with different tools in the box. Absolute versions usually come with the most heads and tools; Motorhead versions have fewer. The motor and battery are the same within a model.
For a refurbished buy, this matters less than you’d think. Check the listing photos for the tools you actually need, such as a mini motorised head for pet hair on stairs.
The battery: the one thing to check
A worn battery is the most common complaint with second-hand Dyson vacuums. Before you buy, look for:
- A new or tested battery mentioned in the listing.
- The seller’s warranty, and whether it covers the battery.
- The run time the seller measured, if they state it.
- A charger in the box. Some cheap listings leave it out.
Batteries can be replaced on all these models, so a tired battery isn’t the end of the machine. But it’s an extra cost that wipes out part of the saving.
Refurbished Dyson hair tools: Supersonic, Airwrap and Corrale
Hair care is where refurbished saves the most. Today a refurbished Supersonic starts at £109, an Airwrap at £155 and a Corrale straightener at £135.
- Supersonic is a hair dryer. It’s the simplest and cheapest of the three.
- Airwrap curls, waves and smooths using air instead of hot barrels. It’s the one most people ask about at Christmas.
- Corrale is a cord-free straightener with flexing plates.
One warning on the Airwrap: some cheap listings are for the main body only, with no styling attachments. Those are much cheaper for a reason. We leave them out of our comparison, but check what’s included on any listing you find yourself.
Refurbished Dyson air purifiers
Dyson’s purifier names follow a pattern. The letters in the model code tell you what it does:
- TP: purifier and fan (Purifier Cool, from £360).
- HP: purifier, fan and heater (Purifier Hot+Cool, from £321).
- PH: purifier, fan and humidifier (Purifier Humidify+Cool, from £350).
On a refurbished purifier, ask whether the filter is new. A replacement filter is a running cost, so a used one eats into the saving.
Where to buy a refurbished Dyson in the UK
- Specialist refurbishers on eBay. Most refurbished Dyson stock in the UK is sold this way. We only include business sellers listing items as refurbished, with at least 97% positive feedback.
- Dyson’s outlet and Argos, both on eBay. Both sell refurbished Dyson products through official eBay stores. They’re often not the cheapest, but they’re the lowest-risk option.
- Back Market and Loop Mobile. Both stock some Dyson hair tools and purifiers. Back Market gives a 1-year warranty.
- Amazon Renewed. Each Dyson page on our site links to Amazon’s renewed listings for that model.

- Battery: new, tested, or not mentioned?
- What’s in the box: charger, tools or attachments, UK plug.
- Condition grade: Excellent, Very Good or Good only describes how it looks.
- Seller: business seller, strong feedback, clear returns policy.
- Price: compare it with our daily prices on the model page before you buy.
Should you wait for Black Friday?
Black Friday is on 27 November 2026. New Dyson prices often drop, which can push refurbished prices down too. But refurbished stock is limited, and the best-value listings sell quickly in the run-up to Christmas.
If you see a refurbished model with a new battery and a 12-month warranty at a price you’re happy with, it’s fine to buy it now. Our Dyson price comparison updates every morning, so you can watch prices until then. Buying as a present? See our refurbished tech gift guide.
